As you all may or may not know Adam Prescott is a certified badman and after the release of his Wreakhead EP we thought we would get to know him a little bit better:
Could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi my names Adam Prescott, I’m 24 and live in Nottingham. I’ve been DJ’ing & producing all kinds of music since about 12-13.
When did you first get into bass music?
I’ve always been into music (especially bass driven music) ever since I first heard Barrington Levy’s earlier tunes when I was about 10 – 11 (Shoalin Temple, Black Roses, Here I Come etc) and on the B-Side you’d have the Dub (Scientist, King Tubby etc) and it just blew me away, couldn’t get enough of it. Then I started to get into Jungle & anything Prodigy based. I’ve Dj’d all styles over quite a few years and at one point got vaguely successful at Drum & Bass, even had a tune played on Radio 1 & 1Xtra, but then I heard some really early Caspa, Skream & Kromestar tunes and I was hooked. It was fresh and I could kind of do whatever I wanted to do with it. It felt that are the time a lot of Drum & Bass had become so formulaic and Dubstep combined all the elements of music I’m into so I stuck with it.
What are your main musical influences?
Studio 1, Sir David Rodigan, King Tubby, Scientist, Calibre, Iration Steppas, Kanka, Dennis Brown, Cornell Campbell, DMZ, MJ Cole, Kromestar, Martyn, El-B, TRG, Breakage……..by all means not exclusive to these, theres far too many to mention, if a tunes good a tunes good!
When did you first start making music and what did you start on?
I started making tunes from about 13 years old on Music (the game on the Playstation) wish I still had them, some good ideas on there! I then moved onto Hip-Hop Ejay on an awful PC, crashed nearly every time you did anything!
What do you produce on now?
A fair few years ago I made the switch to Logic on a PC, which I used up until about 2 years ago when I bought a Mac with Logic Pro on it and never looked back!
What is your greatest achievment so far in music?
I’ve got a couple that I’m real pleased with, 1st one is doing a tune with Dynamite MC (Roni Size, Reprazent etc) & Jah Screechy (Walk & Skank, Sir Coxsone Sound, SL2 – On A Ragga Tip etc) which is getting a lot of support on Radio 1 & 1Xtra. 2nd one is supporting one of my musical hero’s Sir David Rodigan @ Basslaced in my home town, Nottingham.
What can we expect from Adam Prescott in the near future?
Got quite a busy Dj Schedule ahead of me which is good, also in discussions at the moment with a few labels about the tune I’ve just done with Dynamite MC & Jah Screechy so will have to see how that pans out! Looks good at the moment, gonna still be making tunes, still adding to the already out of hand record collection and some more gigs!
Goli or Ashburner?
